Isn't it fascinating just what modern scientific breakthroughs can tell us about our long dead ancestors?

Classic case of someone being offended on someone else’s behalf, even though that someone doesn't exist, Naomi.
Yep.
When forensic scientists have to reconstruct the features of recent murder victims they always admit there's a lot of artistic licence involved. 10,000 year old skull, they know exactly what he looked like, lol.
Lighten up, bigbrain. No-one likes a snitch.
Bainbrig.
Dark skin and blue eyes, could be Greek, Mediterranean, Spanish, and that hair doesn’t look African to me.
Modern science is a wonder. We can look back and 'see' ou selves as we once were.

Here's to hoping we can use science to move forwards.
The first word that popped into my head when I saw the reconstruction was 'Aztec'.
Thanks JTH for posting this....very interesting read and I enjoy documentaries about these types of topics.
Cheers, Mamya, for the heads up on when the documentary on CH4 is airing....noted and will record it.( I have blue eyes too, and dark skin, but only from a tan after spending the last 12 days in Italy and Malta) :-)

With all the DNA and latest techniques there's still just a 76% chance that Cheddar Man was ‘dark to black’ by today's standards. Etc.. Plenty of scope for artist's impression.
I think he looks a happy wee man ( even if he can't digest milk ) :-)
He'd be sorted wi some Bru Anne.
He would :-)
If I believed any of this old tosh, I'd be terribly disappointed.
Like all good people I hoped my coffee coloured descendants would sit around the eco-friendly campfire, holding hands and singing Kumbaya with all the other coffee coloured children.
Turns out we're all going to turn into white people, boo hoo hoo.
Tissue?
Panic in the ranks!
It’s great to see the science topics generating such an enthusiastic response :-)
If you could only bottle the ignorance shown in these columns...
What. What could you do?
Care to give us an example of our ignorance from that mighty big brain you have?
What could you do?

Bury it, so that future generations could dig it up and be gobsmacked at how incredibly boneheaded their ancestors were.
// Incidentally how do they know that he was the first Brit, there may be earlier ones, yet undiscovered//
or discovered

he is the first-ish Brit since the retreat of the glaciers of the last Ice Age
well were there any before the last ice age ?
yup seems so - I think the Red Woman was one

Native American Indians show DNA mixing from 10 000 y ago - possibly the europeans hand pulled canoes allong the ice edge of a glacier in the atlantic
but also very rarely from 50 000 y ago which would be before the last ice age
That 99 was getting on my nerves.
