Should These Female Tesco Store Workers Receive Equal Pay To The Males Working In The Warehouse?

I presume that males working on the tills receive the same pay as the females, so I take it that if any female worked in the warehouse she would receive the same pay as her male counterparts.

I can't see how the two roles are equal, working in the warehouse must involve much more heavy manual work than just sitting down at the tills.

I agree, AOG.
If they want more money they can apply for a job in the warehouse.
I am not against equal pay for women doing the same job as a man,but in this case I hope the case is thrown out.

I apologise to mikey4444 for the duplication, just shows how quickly threads can move down the list these days.
Yes....why not ?

This is going to run and run. Tesco will settle out of court IMHO....they are in enough trouble as it is !
AOG....no apology required or needed !
I think it is about jobs of equal value.

Is a warehouseman/woman worth more than a checkout operator?

Cassa...that is indeed what this is all about. I thought that the women at Fords in Dagenham had sorted all this out in 1968 ::

But it seems that the problem is still with us 50 years later. Employers never seem to learn, do they ?
This is not about "employers never seem to learn", it's about employees getting greedy. The jobs are not the same; the checkout operators just want them to be. They could get a job in the warehouse but want an easier job for more money.
I agree with what the vast majority of posters have said on the two threads.

Easier job? The checkout staff handle cash and payment transactions and deal with stroppy customers.
I'd prefer to be in the warehouse. Don't forget that health and safety regs make sure the work is not back breaking.
People know the payscale hc ... it is their choice which job they apply for.
I din't think this is an issue of what job is easier. People should be paid according to their ability. All this was settled in 1968.

//All this was settled in 1968//

Obviously it was not!
Of course it is, Mikey.
Without the brave women at Dagenham, we may not have had the Equal Pay Act 1970.
//People should be paid according to their ability.//

What nonsense, from your post can we assume then that a doctor cleaning the lavies should be paid like a doctor because of his/her ability then?
YMB...drivel, and you know it !
People are paid what their job is worth. Unless these women are doing the same job, there's nothing to compare. They could ask for rises if they want, but I don't see anything illegal, as they are discriminating between the jobs, not the sexes.
