The first fights depart today. I had a wonderful holiday in Tunisia a few years ago. But is it now safe to return ?

I just as well tell you

One Tunisian said to me ( UK) "Vee are not arab - we are romani ! look I am blue eyed ... my skin is like yours. we were part of the ROman Empire ( yup great ruins I thought) and they all look at us as arabs!"

and as one commentator said - you can get shot on London Bridge you know ....
( stabbed actually unless he was referring to the police)
Nobody can say it is safe to return.
Question Author
Naomi...nobody can say that Egypt is safe either.
Egypt ?
blimey if you are a sufi muslim - bit of a er bummer I would say.

Beg pardon...me earlier post was to 237Sj, not Naomi....apologies to Naomi (!)
Here is the latest travel advice for Tunisia

Reinforces what I said earlier , I would not go. Try Southern Spain or Greece instead still warm, with good beaches and MUCH safer.
You wouldn't catch me going to Tunisia...nor Turkey, Morocco or Egypt for that matter.

Eddie....I agree, although this whole business is a terrible thing for Tunisia,

According to Wiki, Tunisia is a unitary semi-presidential representative democratic republic. It is considered to be the only full democracy in the Arab World.
^ Yes, Tourism was their main source of income.
Not one of my choices to be honest, in this current climate.
Have been there a few times in the past and on one trip, in Sousse, was offered upward scale to six camels for Mrs Bear, as they apparently love natural blondes, to which I flatly refused....thought she was worth at least ten. :-)
You can't make a blanket opinion of all muslim countries. Some are safer than others. If I was desperate to see a particular site in Tunisia then I would probably go but I`m not so I won`t be going. I will quite happily go to other muslim countries though
yogi - you do know that the whole "I`ll give you 6 camels for your wife" is a joke don't you. Much as some people on here would love to hate them, the people from the Middle East and along North Africa have a very prominent sense of humour.
I know, 23....that's why I said it....keep up :-)
237sj; // the people from the Middle East and along North Africa have a very prominent sense of humour.//

To which "people" do you refer, Muslim Sunnis, Shias, or the dwindling Christians and Jews?
Please tell us a Muslim joke.
They're a great bunch of lads, Khandro. Always joshing. They particularly like cartoons.
Khandro - All of the people in that part of the world.
Here's a good question to ask on your next visit;
How about you go to the Middle East and try to not to judge people on your next visit? Somehow, I think your opinions are based on ignorance
Deary me.
Deary me indeed. I`d love to hear all about your travels in the Middle East and elsewhere Douglas
