New Ukip Interim Leader.
Gerard Batten calmly and incisively puts over his views, while prejudiced and vulgar Scotch bully loses it.

Yes, there was a certain amount of tongue in cheek there. Clearly what they're trying to do is not let the interviewee just take control, ignore reasonable questions, and turn the whole thing into a propaganda piece for themselves. However, they do seem to overcompensate, and go into 'Humphries mode' when it's not needed. It's very tedious for the viewer that actually wants to hear what the person has to say.
Eddie Mair gets the balance right imo.

I hope for UKIP's sake Batten sticks around for a while. He seems to know what it's all about.
Regarding Humphries, I was unfortunate to have to spend a couple of hours in his company one afternoon in about 1991. Oh boy was he rude (to everyone), and demanding, with a very high opinion of himself expecting us all to leap the minute he opened his mouth. He sure made a lot of noise for such a little man.
