She doesn't even own it so a five figure sum to lose something you don't own would seem like a lottery win to some people. But she values her garden more so good for her I say.

That's true too, as traffic has increased and the cart lane has become a highway many villages have protested bitterly over the years.

Cases of foundations of beautiful homes shaken and damaged due to HGVs taking the sat nav's suggested shortcuts.

Are they wrong as well?
No they are not wrong, anything that preserves our heritage and rural England gets my vote. This isn't the case here though, no evidence that HGVs will start thundering past, it will be residential traffic.
I only have the picture in the article to go on but two metres closer than the road shown would alarm me.
Just look at that miserable face............
she should be careful, the council could uproot her and stick her in a one bedroom flat with no garden whatsoever ...

// it would be awful if I had no front garden," she said. \\

Wow, the irony.

I doubt the council would take the risk of being on the wrong side of people 'taking to Twitter' or some other mob rule tool.
They'll maybe just have to wait for nature to take it's course.
Clearer picture here of what that two metres would mean.

Yes Ael, they can make her leave her home if she breaches her tenancy agreement.
mamya.....looking at your picture, it would seem that 2 metres wouldn't make ANY difference to traffic flow, as there doesn't seem enough room to drive a pony and trap down.

There must be a major road development.
If you look at the plans/proposals it seems that there had always been major concerns with regards to access for the new development.
The 2 metre strip will make little difference. They need to demolish the end property opposite as this will give the required safe access. However I am sure the 'it will be ok' attitude will win.

Quite Spath. Would at least have covered the inevitable funeral costs coming up soon and some.
I'm on the 'good for her' side.
Well I must say that if ymb or spath were my heirs, with that attitude, they'd be rather disappointed when my will was read. My money would go to a cats' home before them and I don't like cats.

///They only want 2 metres........no big deal.///

Look at the Photo, there is not much over 2 Mtrs there in the first place.
