While Hillsborough was a tragedy, and the cover up a national scandal, the industry it now spawns is extremely tiresome.

No, it was only commented upon because it was on a football shirt.
Maybe 69 would still work.
Or 88
Having read the article - no it isn't prohibited.

I await further from Topman.
at fist glance I was instantly reminded of Hillsborough's tragic events and yes 96 on a red football style shirt will be associated with Liverpool fc.
however I do not associate a rose
And on a red shirt-Liverpool’s colours? Cynical marketing(repetitious I know)ploy.

No, but a Labour MP would wish it too be.
Just add it to the list of things unlikely to be seen in Liverpool.

The Sun
Alloys on a car
Carragher with a handy tissue
Soap
Non sports related clothing
I don't know how this design got further than a piece of paper.
The designer must have been living under a rock for 30 years.

If a reference to Bob Marley I would have expected the more usual red gold and green colours.
I am not a Liverpool supporter, but I think it is perfectly acceptable for LFC shirts to carry the 96. I would also be happy for the Mancs to have something on their shirts in memory of the air crash. It's a mark of respect for those who died and a gesture of solidarity with those that remain. It is not political, it is a human thing.
However the topman shirt is naff and I think would be better withdrawn.

I’m not sure where

I’m not sure where, why Manchester shirts are mentioned but seriously? Why not also have the numbers of those killed and injured in the bombing?Start referencing every disaster on a football shirt like a mobile obituary? Numbers everywhere On their shirts from every crash, stabbing and shooting?

It’d just get ridiculous.

That’s just wrong, people want to see an exciting game not be reminded of death.
There is a world of difference when the deaths were specific to the club.

BTW. If anyone has been to Liverpool recently they will know it is a bright and vibrant city, clean and friendly. No you can't buy the Sun but then why would you want to anyway. I grew up in London, live in Birmingham and love Liverpool.
You'd have to have been living on the moon for the best part of 30 years not to have drawn an immediate inference about this top.

It's Liverpool-red, has a picture where a club-emblem would usually be, has a large number on the back.......all very football.

The number 96 'could' be coincidental BUT the 'Karma - what goes around comes back around' sounds more like an unpleasant reference/warning.
Of course it isn't coincidental, like I said it's a naff shirt, in poor taste. I think many will be offended by the message. I remember watching the Hillsborough disaster unfolding on tv, I can't imagine the fear and pain involved. What I have learned is the deaths traumatized a whole city, and the anger is still apparent today.

O lord, they don’t sell the sun over a childish 23 boycott?

The tabloids lie and make mistakes, WELCOME TO THE MEDIA! Get over it already, if someone wants to read a paper that others are still sore about then let them read it. What are they going to do, beat the person to within an inch of their lives to prove a point?

And shame on the Liverpool echos journalist who thought it was a good idea to name the shop in question and give out its address “The Sainsbury’s superstore on Rice Lane, Walton”

If this place gets firebombed or the staff attacked, I hope the police come for him.
Is their main objection to the word karma because they conveniently brush Heysel under the carpet?
Don’t know how a rose is associated with Hillsborough but hey-ho, as ever you kick one Scouser and they all scream....

No.
No need for the shirt to be red or echo the design of a football shirt.
