In the late 15th/early 16th centuries they were finally driven out. As I said, it took 800 years. A few (about 300,000) remained and converted to Christianity (not voluntarily) in order to remain. But these were eventually driven out by about 1600.

This couldn't be done today because we live in more "enlightened" times. I have no solution to the current Islamic presence in Europe. Stable doors and horses spring to mind. But because I have no solution it doesn't mean I like it.

The "what they believe in" clause, is more accurately "as long as I believe in it too", because ISIS, along with all other terrorists most certainly have strongly held beliefs.

For clarification, the 'You Read It Here First' in the OP is not referring to this thread, but to the fact that a few of us have been saying on AB that Christianity is the basis of European civilisation for a long time, and that now even the most head-in-the-sand governments are finally starting to feel the need to say so.

Taking the argument that there is such a thing a "moderate Islam", some suggestions to tackle radical islam might be:

Close any mosque found to be teaching radical Islam.

Deport or imprison any Muslim preaching radical Islam depending on their country of birth/nationality.

Close all mosques in prison. Radicalisation is rife behind bars. Religion should be a private matter when you're serving time. Anyone found guilty of preaching radical Islam in prison to have their sentence extended.

Close any school which is found to be trying to radicalise children.

Imprison or deport any teacher or adult found guilty of radicalisation.

Increased sentences for any terrorist activity, regardless how 'minor'.

There are parts of Islam which are poisonous and completely incompatible with British society (which was founded on Christianity but could not longer be called Christian)- but any modern, liberal, secular democracy.

Ooooh.......controversial I think that the OHCHR in Geneva would have a lot to say about that.

I think the secret services would purposely keep them open so that they can monitor suspects like they did with public hate preacher gatherings.

If closed they would just be driven underground with them congregating in multiple cells in prison cells where it would be impossible to monitor all of them or they’d just meet at association away from waves dropping where there aren’t any cameras and audio devices as I suspect there are in prison mosques.

I think you are right there, particularly as the High Commissioner of OHCHR, Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad, is a Muslim.
