I can just imagine how many AB users would score if they sat a test about life in Denmark. I might scrape a mark if they asked about Hans Andersen's house, which I once visited, but that's about it.
As for Father Christmas, he was always said to live at the North Pole - partly because it was so remote, but also I think because it was neutral territory, not specific to any one country. But in recent years some regions have tried to make money by claiming to be his home, and you can take trips to let your kids visit him there. Lapland is one of these - but more than about 10 years ago I don't think anyone in Britain would have thought he had anything to do with Lapland.
Thank you jno, you are sooo sweet!
Danish kids are told that Father Christmas (julenissen or Julemanden) comes from Greenland, I'm not exactly sure why, but apparently we weren't modest enough to put him somewhere neutral. :0)
