China investing in the British economy? Don't make me laugh. Gaining access to out technical knowhow and stealing research results and the pilfering of intellectual property more like. Believe me it is not out of any altruistic intention on China's part.

Of course I'm not happy with this. China is one of the cruellest nations in the world and why the hell should we help them. I've said it before, when we have terrible problems in our own country with homeless kids on the streets, care homes closing down all the time and the NHS in crisis, then NO we should not be giving money in so called aid abroad.

In the example provided by Sam Gyimah, we aren’t simply funding the roll out of maternity care device. What we are doing in partnership with private firms, is providing expertise and the groundwork needed to establish new medical facilitiers and training to middle income countries.
It may look like we’re giving money away, but we aren’t. We are investing. We need to ensure that we have influence in these emerging economies. We need to get our foot in the door and we need to ensure that our companies (in this case, pharmaceutical) are at the front of the cue when these economies strike trade deals).
If we shut down overseas development, someone will jump in. We will save ourselves a few million now, but it may well cost us more down the line.
