They're all the same - Tory, Labour, Lib-Dem, Monster Raving Loony - if any of them told me today was 30 April, i'd have to check the bottom right hand of my screen before i believed them. They're not just liars, they're bare-faced liars who look you in the eye while telling these porkies.
// It wasn't having targets for illegal immigrants that made her go though ,was it//
well it was for stating that there werent targets
a bit philosophical for AB
OK very philosophical for the usual suspects whoever they may be
she didnt go because there were targets ( there were )
she went because she told a cttee there werent targets (when there were - boing - lie! )
If you are at a spare moment look up Loeb's theorem - or Lob's theorem

Hopkirk, the problem with having targets is meeting them. You want to lock up 100 burglars this year? If there are 500 burglars, you're failing. If there are only 50, you have to lock up 50 innocent people to meet your target. You might think targets for illegal immigrants are easier to meet, since there are (allegedly) so many of them. None the less, they've been deporting legal ones in pursuit of their target, and that's what caused the scandal.
wbm, I don't think she was misled by staff. She said there were no targets. A letter turned up in which she herself was discussing them with May. She must have "forgotten".

"A leaked document has revealed....." Who is leaking these documents? Would it not have been appropriate to show the documents to the Home Secretary first, to remind her, or make her aware of, the errors she was making in her statements? I don't know if that would have saved her, but what sort of civil service are we paying for when things like this happen?
