It's grossly unfair to suggest that anyone who wonders how she is going to do this is spiteful or uncaring. She has no job, no obvious qualifications and nowhere of her own to live - of course she's done a great thing in adopting them but the facts of how she is going to support them financially need consideration and you have to be pretty well off to bring up 4...

\\WEBBO, when wee ones are adopted in this country, who is legally responsible for them and why?//

the people that adopt them and the taxpayer, not sure how it works if she adopts 4, yes 4 children from another country when she sgsin, unless shes a millionaire it will be the tax payer and the local authorities.

And that is the exact point, if she wanted to adopt and bring one child home .....brilliant, but 4....
She has been getting abuse from what I've read.

There have been some valid questions asked here, she has media presence - could these not be posed to Claire herself?
And she's getting a lot of support too, I have read her FB page, a third of the money raised already - but that is not for their upkeep.
I agree, she does have a lot of support and I don't expect she thought everyone would be enthused when this went public.
It's not the wondering, Prudie......fair enough to wonder and take an interest in how she intends to do it....
To assume that she is planning to sponge and to be judgemental and nasty in the way some have is cruel and uncaring.....and with no concern for why she's having to leave and what the children were going through before she took them into her care.
I have no problem if the state helps her.....if other folk do it's tough....they support plenty who don't need supporting.
Why balk at giving somebody like her a hand? A lady who has saved and nurtured four children......are you happy to have them left to their fate?
.and with no concern for why she's having to leave

And why is she having to leave?
Gness you have only reinforced what I said by asking me "are you happy to have them left to their fate?". ie either yes I'm happy so horribly uncaring or I have to take the other tack of what a wonderful woman, how wonderful that such people exist. We should be able to discuss the practicalities of the situation without being in one camp or the other because in reality this whole thing sits in the middle.
Can't help but notice how the virtue signallers leap aboard a bandwagon with zest and misty eyed vigour, as long as every one else has to fund their self worthy largesse. It doesn't go unnoticed, either, that the very same practitioners of empathy and understanding are capable of the most callous and waspish post on here. As long as they have drummed up a bit of backup of grid of course.
WEBBO, do you think you're legally responsible for every adopted wee one in the country?

I pay taxes and I know I'm not legally responsible for any other person, adopted or no.
No, Prudie....nobody has to take either tack. But to read what she has done and is trying to do and immediately start spouting about living off the UK taxpayer......living on handouts and doubting her without proof is wrong. To begrudge children a life.....and to post that you do is beyond understanding.

And Togo....don't you know how pathetic a post is when it contains.....virtue signallers? :-)
Wow those taxes that you pay go a long long way
//I have no problem if the state helps her....Why balk at giving somebody like her a hand? A lady who has saved and nurtured four children......are you happy to have them left to their fate? //

Fair questions, Gness.

But, thinking about just this particular orphanage, how many other orphans do you think there are? Four hundred, possibly? Maybe four thousand even?

Now, if we do not allow the four children in we'll be "abandoning them to their fate", won't we? So it follows that if we do give them residence in the UK then we'll still (taking my lower estimate) be abandoning the other four hundred to "their fate", won't we? And wouldn't that be "cruel and uncaring"?

So the only fair thing to do is take them all, isn't it, assuming we can find adoptive or foster parents for them all?

Do you agree with my line of reasong?

If not, what's wrong with it?
This debate is missing the real issue that will arise should this woman's plans come to fruition.

It is extremely unlikely that these five will be financially independent and even less likely the taxes collected (if any) from the adoptive mother will fund the services that they will require. But that is not all there is to it. Debating whatever work this woman secures if an when she arrives here, whatever taxes she pays or benefits she draws is largely missing the main point. The UK is struggling to meet demand for housing and educational facilities and it is unarguable that the NHS is struggling to meet demand. These four children will need all of that. Whilst people already here – most of whom have paid and continue to pay fairly hefty taxes – effectively have these vital services rationed or restricted it is totally irresponsible and completely unfair to bring four foreign children here to increase the burden on those services (meaning greater restrictions for those already in the various queues).

I said earlier it was for no good reason and was told it was “to give them a better life”. Very altruistic, fine and dandy. But the UK is not currently in a position to provide waifs and strays from across the world with a better life. Just because we enjoy a (considerably) better standard of living than Tanzania is not a justification. There is no reason to jeopardise the relatively agreeable facilities the UK enjoys – which are already creaking - just because they are better than elsewhere.

It has been said that plenty of people already here have four children of their own which they are often unable to support fully and who will all need access to overstretched vital public services. Very true. And one very good reason why we should not ship in four more.
i wonder how good it is for children to be forcibly moved abroad away from their native language, culture, climate and so on? She has learnt their language, so presumably they dont even speak english. Why cant she work there anymore?
also, i found it a bit odd that her family are so caring, yet the grandmother didnt even go and meet her grandchildren for several years
You don't need me to tell you why we can't and shouldn't take in every destitute, abandoned and abused child, VE...you already know I'm sure.
And I'm not talking about this particular orphanage but every child who needs help.....they are as important and as much in need as these four children were.
Yes, one way or another we are abandoning all these children to their fate......you, me the Uk.....their own governments and leaders and sadly often the major charities who waste so much of the aid given.
So, for me even a drop in the ocean, such as this case, shouldn't be denigrated ...and I hope it turns out well and happily...x

Why cant she work there anymore?

I've asked the well informed the exact same question...no reply.
