The law is very clear, same sex only, do they think them lining the pockets of bI00d sucking lawyers will change that?

Civil weddings by law are devoid of any religion.
-- answer removed --
NJ has stated in the past he doesn't believe judges make law. I reckon if one can set a precedent that defines the law and thus creates it from any previous confusion.
They can have a civil wedding, they can't have a civil partnership. The is a big difference.

Wrong again Spath, what they want is a Civil Partnership,
Do keep up ;o)
they can have a civil wedding, people have been having them for years. I think I had one myself. What they can't have is a civil partnership, only a marriage. I can't see why they shouldn't have equality before the law, even though I can't see why they want it.
It's only a matter of time before a man trapped in a squirrel's body identifying as a Siamese twin wants to change the law to accommodate his civil partnership with goldfish triplets...
I hope I'm still here to see the hoo ha that causes.
Why should it cause a hoo-hah Mamy? It's entirely "normal", surely!?
If the authorities stopped treating those who go through ceremonies differently to those who have no wish to, there wouldn't be an issue.
Apologies Spungle didn't mean to offend.
It's okay Mamy, I will accept the apology and stop writing to my MP in "outrage" and bin the protest banners. :)
I can't quite see why, if they are committed enough to want to formalise their relationship, they don't op for a civil wedding.
Spungle, you have made my day! Thanks for the laugh.
Phew

How sciurusist of spungle! ...and surely you mean "conjoined" !
I don't see why either jackthehat, but playing Devil's advocate for a moment, the law as it stands very clearly discriminates against heterosexuals who want to formalise their relationship but do not want to get married.

Gay people have the choice to either get married or enter into a civil partnership, heterosexual people do not - discrimination.

Simple solution would be to scrap civil partnerships.
They *do* seem to be a bit superfluous to requirements, now.
However, if the decision was taken to scrap them 'something' would need to be put in place for those already CP'd.....
In France civil partnership (pacte civile) is open to all.
I'm sure I heard the other day civil partnerships were to be reconsidered by parliament as there is no need to have them now.

It was daft in the first place IMHO. Anyone should have been allowed to marry not segregate gay people into a different category.
