If a hard border was to go in, it would mean a person living in Letterkenny or anywhere around Donegal having to travel down the west coast by Sligo just to get to Dublin, that's just one instance, it's ridiculous especially for workers commuting to Dublin or other border counties to work. We in the RofI didn't vote for brexit so why should our lives be turned upside down

Well it wouldn’t mean a thing of the sort of course. Nonetheless I agree that the situation with regard to ‘Brexit’ and the two parts of Ireland is one which may well kibosh the former

Either cut NI loose and finish the problem once and for all or have a soft border our side and show it is the EU being intransigent.

Other countries, like Switzerland, manage it so it can be done. The Irish PM is peed off becuase he know with the UK gone there will be no brass coming in, in fact he will probably have to pay in!

there's a natural border in place, it's called the North Channel - as to crossing it, not much different to showing a passport to a driving licence etc to board a ferry or plane - and automate customs such as between Sweden and Norway.

I drive in and out of Switzerland quite often (in fact I did so last Saturday) without let or hindrance. If the EU can have such an arrangement with the Swiss, why can they not have it with N.I.?
They (Brussels) are being obdurate in order to secure a very soft Brexit, and the hapless Teresa is playing right into their hands.

They could. But the UK government has ruled out single market membership. Besides, the stopgap measure of extending customs union participation to NI does prevent a hard border, if I understand it correctly.

It's the same difference as far as the operation of the border is concerned. The UK government has pretty much ruled out that option anyway.
