Is This What A Member Of The British Royal Family Should Be Doing
Meghan Markle has outlined her feminist credentials and declared her commitment to gender equality. Is t right that a member of the British royal family - who’ve traditionally stayed right out of such issues - should be allowed to take such a stance? Have the senior royals made a huge error in allowing her such freedom so early on in her royal life? Are they fearful of saying no to her already, in a similar way to political correctness strongly affecting the U.K. as a whole? Is this the direction the monarchy - who are unelected, let’s not forget - should be heading in?

Spath you are being obtuse.
I work in investigation - when I started here it was very male dominated and I fought bloody hard to get where I am as at the time it was not unheard of for a bloke to get the job over a woman.
For you to say to report it proves the point that if there is a reporting structure there is a problem with equality.

I said 'I am ( my friends name's) guest and he's asked me to move it for him'. I showed him my pass verifying that and the keys I had and he still hung onto the handlebar. I'm not quite sure what I could have done further without becoming one of the neurotic bellowing feminists that you seem to hate so much, so I just sat on the bike until it'd been verified, but it was undoubtedly because this man in particular had either a problem with women generally or a problem with me, I can't imagine he'd have done the same or used similar language if I'd been a man ( and yes I agree he's been brought up badly) but this is the sort of thing women contend with on an almost daily basis and it's irritating and unnecessary and that's why feminism is still pertinent.

//I feel feminism will just aggravate men like that. What they really need is their mother to reeducate them of the power a woman can have, and the strength.//
Seriously? His mother? You think he's likely to respect her either, or maybe it is just a problem with me, or women like me or whatever his hang up was? My friend re-educated him, and basically told him to clear off out of the way, but he was off with me every time he saw me, so I think he's got a problem his Mum isn't going to be able cure.

i dont want to speak for someone else, but i have gone back and re-read the responses to this thread. I think it's pretty clear that spath has said on many occasions that if humanism, and respecting human beings equally were to be the norm, there would be no need for feminism (because women wouldnt be seen as different) He has a clumsy way of saying things sometimes, but on this occasion i agree
i also agree that we live in a very male orientated world in general. Look at the harvey weinstien stuff with people saying "they went to his room to discuss work, they should have known what was going to happen. If a much older woman had asked for a discussion about roles in her latest movies, young men would not have expected to be touched up

I'm actually quite pro men's rights too for what it's worth Spath. I think men in the modern world frequently feel they don't have a natural place and can feel de-emasculated, and we need to address that, but pretending there isn't still a problem isn't going to help either women facing discrimination or men facing it is it?
Spath, you said there wouldn't be any need for feminism if we all respected each other and the world was as you....and most of us... would want it to be. I took that to mean you thought there was still a need for the feminist movement.
The world isn't like that by a long, long way so we can't just suddenly stop campaigning for rights and equality for women throughout this world....
Any more than I can stop sending dresses/shorts/ knitted goods to children who have nothing....and bras/knickers/sanitary products to girls who don't have those.
Feminists aren't just focused in on the rights of women....you'll find that for most of us it's just a part of what/who we are.... :-)

Well, Islay......as far as I can make out it was invented by a lady named Mary......makes me want to change my name....
The one she 'invented" was simple and comfortable, I believe....and led to a company being formed......Caresse Crosby......
Where I think it went wrong was when men became involved and the comfort and caressing went out the window......
Bras suddenly had to lift, push, haul in, point out, separate, include wires...god knows why other than to break your washing machine....then to please men we had to learn to lean into the cup and do up the hooks at the back.....no fastening at the front and whizzing it around....
I should stop now....though I could continue....Ed'll move me for being off topic..... ;-)
