Is This What A Member Of The British Royal Family Should Be Doing

Meghan Markle has outlined her feminist credentials and declared her commitment to gender equality. Is t right that a member of the British royal family - who’ve traditionally stayed right out of such issues - should be allowed to take such a stance? Have the senior royals made a huge error in allowing her such freedom so early on in her royal life? Are they fearful of saying no to her already, in a similar way to political correctness strongly affecting the U.K. as a whole? Is this the direction the monarchy - who are unelected, let’s not forget - should be heading in?

Except Danny, by protocol, the Royals dont actually have the same freedom of speech. As I said before they need to remain neutral.

The Queen has always manged it magnificently, and even as an anti Royalist I take my hat off to her. Others have not and eventually that will be the downfall of the Monarchy. They must not be seen to take any sides whatsoever or we'll get another Cromwell marching in.

I think Spath has spelt it out right. It's all about the wording and managing the message.

Using the word equality is good, absolutely no harm in that. However link it to a singular group of feminism and the whole story changes. And that is when it becomes unacceptable for Royals.

I don't see the problem in using "feminism", which may have been corrupted by fringe groups but is -- despite what spath says -- about equality at its heart.

vernonk - so many questions, but basically the answer is this: the Royal Family have to (like the Church of England) choose traditional over modernisation. They will probably realise that not every member of the family will be a traditionalist, and weigh up the impact of modernisation.

I suspect they realise that what people like about Harry (his unconventional spirit and willingness to stick two metaphorical fingers up) could be their undoing if they try in any way, to constrain his wife.
