// A group of Tommy Robinson supporters has blocked off a major road in central London in a tense stand-off with police, who made several arrests.

Supporters chanted “Free Tommy Robinson” and hurled missiles and smoke bombs at police.

Hundreds of demonstrators descended on the capital and blocked off the road around Trafalgar Square.

A spokesperson for megasightseeing.com said: “Our London sightseeing bus was on its normal route when it got caught up in the demonstrations. The bus was stormed by demonstrators. “The demonstrators have caused a significant amount of damage to the bus, which meant it had to be towed away.

The Met said that as of 6.30pm, one person had been arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, two for assault on a police officer, a fourth for possession of a flare and a fifth for criminal damage to a bus. The Met will now look at CCTV footage of the demonstration. //

What is a football hooligan supposed to do on a Saturday afternoon, when the season has ended?

I’m surprised at you associating yourself with such scum, Naomi. Really surprised.
//Why would you not believe the reporting of it? There is video footage//

Do you understand the concept of editing?
I`ve got a fluffy pussycat and a tin of Gourmet on that video so far )
No doubt you'll get over it, Zacs .... or not.
Yes, sorry about the advert. But if your concentration span lasts just a little longer........
I don’t really need to ‘get over’ the emotion of surprise, Naomi. It’s a fleeting thing. Whereas supporting a known criminal and his supporters seems to be a raison d’etre for you.
Hmmm ...

VE,
The protest was spontaneous. They did not tell the authorities beforehand that they planned to hijack a sightseeing bus.
So the media have the police reports and the videos shared and uploaded by the people in the incidents, on which to build up a picture of events. The videos are made on the fly and not much editing or thought goes into them before uploading.
I came out of the tube about 1.45 and some rather foul mouthed blokes caught my eye. They were shouting about meeting up in a pub later and as they walked down towards Trafalgar Square they started a football style chant. I couldn't make out what they were saying at first. Then I saw the banners in the square and someone letting off a blue flare. They had taken over most of the square at that point. When I came through at 5.30 ish, the helicopter was up, the tube had been closed, traffic was stuck, there was an open top Megabus stuck in the middle of the throng with people standing on it's roof. I don't know what happened to the hapless tourists who had been on it. A line of police horses were ready and some of the idiots were doing their best to scare the horses. One bloke stood in front of a row of tourists and screamed "I`m English". I think he was pretty drunk. I think many of them were actually. The amount of beer cans thrown around in the street were testament to that. I watched it all for a while as I had to walk around the edge of it to get back to Waterloo. It was disgraceful.
ZM - I wasn't talking about your video
237SJ, if you were talking about my link I didn’t post it for the video. Try scrolling down to //‘Free Tommy Robinson’ protest – in pictures.//

Naomi - I don't need to look at the pictures. I was there (and saw pictures in media yesterday)
237SJ, But these are pictures you haven't seen - and from what you say, you weren't there when these were taken.
With profound apologies to the 12 year old girls of Britain, who are no doubt safer today as a result of this action, Gromit’s irony did make me chuckle :-)

///there was an open top Megabus stuck in the middle of the throng with people standing on it's roof///

Surely an open top megabus does not have a roof!
Baldric, I wondered about that bus too. The report says "Hundreds of supporters crowded on to an open-top Megabus". I don't know much about buses, but hundreds? That has to be some 'mega' bus.

The sightseeing MegaBus has both roof and an open top area.

I suspect hundreds is an exaggeration, but rabble tend not to obey boarding numbers or standing on seats and the roof. It probably had more people on than it could legally carry.
//I suspect hundreds is an exaggeration//

Me too, Gromit, which leads me to ask how much more of that report is an exaggeration.
Well, there were easily enough to fill half of Trafalgar Square so I would say that was hundreds. Tourists up one end, EDL down the other (at 2 pm)
