Clearly this is an average and we still have many clever young people but is there some truth in this? Is this was we see some really irrational thought coming from some?

And before the PC Brigade and perpetually offended get the hump, I too disagre with the wording of the headline (using the word stupid).

The point is that over a period of many years IQ levels rose. Now, using the same benchmarks, they have started falling and falling quite a lot. So that’s obviously something that needs looking at.
Maybe it’s just that we’re clever in different ways. I worked with a lot of clever people who didn’t strike me as particularly intelligent. Maybe that has nothing to do with it but maybe the traditional tests do indeed need revising.
Good point, ummmm. My son used to be on his phone all the time, learning Japanese symbols or the atomic numbers of elements.

Isn't that an oxymoron?
Exactly, Jo.
danny, //Isn't that an oxymoron? //

I don't think so. Many clever people are incredibly stupid.
:o)
Spath, I am not talking about an on line test, I meant a test organised and supervised by MENSA.
I wonder how many people have realised that the report states that the decline started in 1975.

That means that ‘young’ in this context is people up to the age of 43.
This report actually means ‘young and middle-aged’.
Looking at the comments section under the article is great fun.

One of the top rated comments:

//Dumming down exams for political gain is responsible. We have generations of thickies who think they are clever and will never be challenged due to PC.//

‘Dumming’.

Bahahahaaaa...

That's my point, Spath, they can't be testing all our children.

I had to go to a university where I sat with a large group of people taking the MENSA test which was supervised,The group consisted of people of all age groups sitting the same test. When these tests are marked the age of the person is taken into consideration before awarding an I/Q mark. Are you telling me that you have never heard of MENSA?
I'm amazed you've never heard of MENSA.

ummm I did not attend a university,I went there solely to sit the test.
