The SNP are used to showboating and strutting at Holyrood but cannot understand that gesture politics is not a good option at the Mother of all democratic systems worldwide. Send them home to think again.

Ta 3T.
Unsure what the complaint is about. "policy in devolved areas that is currently decided in Brussels is being reclaimed by Westminster". Of course it is. The devolved areas are still part of the UK and so Brexit ensures Brussels won't be sticking it's nose in, in future. As it's a UK transition it's logically controlled by the UK government and after we've exited decided where control should end up. I get the impression that this is just nonsense brought up in the hope of delaying things, presumably in the hope of causing the whole of the UK issues.
If policy controlled by the EU concerns areas currently devolved to the Parliament/Assemblies, why should the UK Parliament have any control?
Because 'devolved' or not it's still part of the UK which manages the exit of the UK from the EU. Common sense.
The proposed Bill would restrict some of the currently devolved powers for up to seven years. Does that sound like a reasonable length of time bearing in mind the much shorter period the UK government has spent on negotiating with the EU?
Up to. Take as long as it takes.
The government can negotiate a deal with the EU in two years but take up to seven years when it comes to devolved powers?
Up to. Take as long as it takes.

well if they've got any sense they'll abolish all this St Tony devolution cobras, ASAP, just another layer of snout in the trough politicians taking the sipp if you asked me. So glad we don't an English "parliament".
You do have an English Parliament, it's call Westminster! The problem with the power grab is that Westminster can overturn laws made under Scottish law, and that breaks the Act of Union treaty, which states that in Scotland Scots Law is paramount.
If I understand this correctly the UK parliament/government has said it will not devolve the powered to start with simply because it would disrupt the smooth (ish) exit. But they will get the ‘powers’ back when everything is settled.

I think that is eminently reasonable.

Once done and dusted they can be given back. Posturing about power grabs is sensationalist propaganda that just feeds NS desire for independence.
No Roman we have a UK parliament. There is no English parliament in the same way there is a Scottish, Welsh or NI parliament.

CASSA, the government can't have much confidence if it thinks it could take seven years to resolve matters.
All well on the brexit front I see, just sit back and wait ........
Tee-hee.

"that breaks the Act of Union treaty, which states that in Scotland Scots Law is paramount. " - if that was true then Scotland has been autonomous since 1707 so why devolve at all?
Perhaps they see the EU being difficult for seven year. Perhaps they don’t trust NS to play nicely. Perhaps they have put a longer than needed end date to exceed expectations when it takes less time. Perhaps they envision some things taking longer than expected. Perhaps with the dummy slinging attitude of the SNP they expect to have to babysit for a while to get them back up to speed.

But have you contacted TM and asked her why they have given a max of seven years? And that is a max. Not a minimum.
Rather a lot of perhaps in there Cassa, perhaps the SNP don't trust the Tories not to sell off the Scottish NHS, the brand name Scotch, to allow Fracking on Scottish land etc. The Scottish government has acknowledged that some areas need to have UK wide agreements but they should be agreed by all devolved parliaments not forced on them without agreement.
They cannot cope with the powers they already have, the police, NHS, education are a mess, they want Westminster to keep the powers of benefits until 2021 because they don't have the systems in place. They are demanding more powers but clearly they cant be trusted with the ones they have. They are an embarrassment to Scotland.
