There are plenty of cases where they need to be involved but they just dont seem to tackle those so why do they keep doing suchg daft things? Surely even if the SW cme up with the idea a superior should have read it and stopped it?

From the Judge:

"The social worker had been asked to 'identify her best example' of the mother failing to meet the boys emotional needs - to which she replied citing that she had not given him ice cream. "
"He added: 'A further criticism in this vein was that the mother had failed to arrange for (his) hair to be cut in the way that he liked. Again, this is obviously inconsequential.'"

And what was the family court judge thinking?

I seem to recall many kids ended up with a crew cut as it was seen as a fast and easy way to rid of lice.

Better than a basin cut anyway.

:-)
No ymg I am not, I'd advocate for the child's best care. This article is I believe very one sided .
I have had very limited dealings with the SS. The first time was 30 years ago when I was teaching. We had a little lad, whose condition would bring tears to your eyes. He came to school in dirty clothes, unwashed and unfed. We referred the case to SS who said that he came from a close and loving family and would therefore not interfere. It was the first time I exploded with rage in front of the headmaster.

The second time was 5 years ago when I was in hospital with a broken arm. As I live on my own and couldn't cope for a few weeks they offered me their services. They lasted one day before I gave them the bum's rush. A former colleague of mine, a lady in her early 80s, got into their clutches and now she can't get rid of them. They bully her mercilessly. If it's a choice between SS and death then give me death. i wouldn't let them past the front door.
///Read the last line of my OP. ///

I can assure you that I read every line of your OP, as well as the Mail article. The point I was making was that the major mistake was by the Judiciary, but both you and the Mail pay negligible single-line reference to this in favour of blazing headlines condemning the Social Services.

I have plenty of experience/knowledge of the Social Services and am aware of substantial weaknesses in some areas. Underfunding and Media Persecution are partly responsible for this, sufficiently qualified and able staff are very difficult to recruit as a result. But in their relentless crusade against Socialism the Hard Right have no care for such issues.
Underfunding and media persecution. Where have I read this load of cobblers before?

Canary, I asked about the judge as part of the question, in a manner showing I disapproved.

So what is your problem?
