Really weird I have a false memory of this. I swear I remember this happening, but I can't do because it was before I was born, likewise I swear I can remember them being executed, very weird :/

Not a fan of capital punishment, I don't think this has served any purpose but the judicial system does seem to have been thorough at least.

Since the individual in question never got a chance to prove whether his incarceration was a suitable deterrent - always cited as an example of why it works as a punishment, and those who believe in execution as a way of saving the tax payers' money were foiled because he was incarcerated for a long period first, I would say it was a 'lose lose'.

That is of course if you regard a human life as something to be checked and balanced by those measures.

Nah. You're being too 'glass half empty' there andy. I prefer to see it as a long enough stint spent suffering in prison (money well spent), followed by execution (further unnecessary expense spared). win win.

Manson would have been executed but at the time the death penalty in the US had been suspended and wasn't restored till 1976.

If capital punishment sits uncomfortably with you (and it does with me for most crimes) think of it as putting him out of his misery. A twisted soul who has no value on earth.

Morality never goes out the window, unless the State or whoever has sunk to the level of the perpetrator.

In this instance the state hasn’t sunk to the level of the perpetrator. The perpetrator killed innocent people.
