Well there you have it Zacs has carried out a little copy and paste exercise and provided an answer.

Since he hasn't provided a counter answer, obviously he agrees with Denmark's stance.
I do. I admire their stance. That doesn't stop me pointing out the impracticalities of it.

Why were they allowed in a children's playground dressed in such a way? They could have been child abducting paedophiles underneath.
I disagree with banning the burka - that is my personal opinion.
All those cheering the language act - do you therefore agree that those Brits that go and live in Spain and Thailand etc should also learn the language?
How can a person learn the language if they are made to feel excluded? We can hardly say that Britain has been welcoming towards certain groups of people.
//Why were they allowed in a children's playground dressed in such a way? They could have been child abducting paedophiles underneath//
How silly and scaremongering that comment is.

Before you make rude comments, perhaps you should first provide proof that it would not be possible?
Perhaps you can provide proof that it is possible - stalemate perhaps?

/// We can hardly say that Britain has been welcoming towards certain groups of people. ///

Britain has been far too welcoming, that is why they choose to come here.

But if they are not happy then there is a perfectly easy alternative.
//do you therefore agree that those Brits that go and live in Spain and Thailand etc should also learn the language? //

yes. my parents lived in france and travelled regularly in spain. officialdom did not deal with them in English - it was either learn to communicate, or pay for the privilege. and that's how it should be.
but mushroom I would say your parents were the exception rather than the rule as I have witnessed myself on holiday in France, Spain, Germany and throught Europe, the 'older' persons move there and do not make an effort to learn the language.
Anotheoldgit - I am afraid I will have to disagree with you - I think attitudes of many towards certain groups have been anything but welcoming. Suggesting that a group of women in a playpark could be peadophiles just because of what they are wearing is one such example. Would you suggest that a group of women in a play park wearing hot pants and crop tops were prostitutes?

Paedophile : "How can I get in that children's playground, without being recognised"???
Paedophile : "Oh I know I can cover myself from head to foot in some well known garment"

'CHECK MATE', I presume.

"Perhaps you can provide proof that it is possible..."

It's obviously possible. People (sometimes men) have donned burkas to avoid detection, identification or when absconding or committing crime. Quite how probable it is is another matter but it's not impossible.
// the 'older' persons move there and do not make an effort to learn the language. //

that would be their choice. their omission doesn't equal an obligation on the authorities. dad learned French and Spanish at age 65. it's not beyond most people.
I would hate to live in your world where you believe that is a possibility.
But mushroom the point I was making is its not the norm therefore what is good for the goose is good for the gander do you not think?

But did those countries provide free interpreters?

I didn't say all Burka wearers were Paedophiles, but it is obvious that you are saying that all women wearing hot pants and crop tops are prostitutes?

//what is good for the goose is good for the gander do you not think? //
no. why should any official body pay to communicate with someone who can't be bothered to make the effort? that there might be many of them doesn't change anything - why should it? if people want to live in language-exclusive ghettoes, let them. but they need to understand they'll need to make their own arrangements if they need to communicate. one of their own number perhaps? or pay for an interpreter.
Oh my how can you take what I have written and twist it in to that Anotheroldgit, that is beyond belief?
AOG - // What makes a liberal nation such as Denmark go to such levels? //

I don't know, I'm not Danish, and I don't know any Danish people?

Is this one of those threads like the ones that Theland posts, where he asks a question, and the tells everyone who answers it where they are going wrong?

Try taking your head out of the sand, believe me it is a much better world above it.
