Who runs the University? The students or the staff? The perception is that some disgruntled people just went and removed it, as though it was their property. The rights and wrongs of Kiplings' poem aren't the issue here for me. It seems that the students can do what they like.

Kipling WAS a racist, self-acknowledged. At least he owned-up to it, unlike many round here.

On the basis of extremely limited contact with Indians and other foreigners, he asserted that the White Races were superior, and had a duty to lead the world.

You don’t need to be young, or a student, to understand history, just intelligent.

Ever heard of Indentured labour ?
Indentured labourers were recruited to work on sugar rail construction projects in British colonies in West Indies, Africa and South East Asia.

It depends upon whether you consider white people to be 'superior' simply because they are white, or to be 'superior' i.e. more technologically advanced, etc. in certain areas.

Being technologically advanced does not, in and of itself, bestow 'superiority' on one group over another except in that given area.

I think that you will find that at that time none white races tended to be less superior to white races.

One could say the same going back centuries when Egyptians, Greeks and Italians were more superior than white Europeans
