more likely the reason is to ensure a momentum member is selected to stand - and Rotherham council have just such a candidate.
The article does not say the death threats came from the Rotherham Muslim Community.
The article that upset some people was printed nationally in the ‘Sun’ newspaper, so the threats cpuld come from anywhere.

More likely is that momentum want her removed because she does not support Corbyn. But she has increased her majority steadily since being elected in 2012 from 10,000 to 21,500, so it would be hard to make a case for de-selection.
//The Rotheram MP sparked controversy last year when she claimed there was “a problem with British Pakistani men raping and exploiting white girls,” in an article for the Sun.
The remarks came on the back of the Rotherham grooming scandal, which saw thousands of girls abused and exploited over years in the town.
Ms Champion was forced to step down as shadow women and equalities minister in the wake of the article, and has since triggered a local backlash.
Community groups and left-wing activists have called for her to stand down, and she has been subject to death threats, according to the Times.
The threats prompted the counterterror unit in Scotland Yard to increase her security risk and advise her to accept extra protection.
Councillor Taiba Yasseen, who is part of the local Momentum movement, is reportedly being lined up as a potential successor.
Meanwhile, the former deputy leader of Rotherham Council, Jahangir Akhtar, described Ms Champion as an “ogre” in corrsepondence seen by the Times.
He warned: “If Labour wants to keep her seat, they need to get rid of her pretty quick.”//
//She has been heavily criticised by racial justice charity Just Yorkshire that speaks on behalf of the local Pakistani community, according to The Times.
It’s leader has accused the MP of ‘industrial-scale racism’ and ‘inciting and inviting hatred against minorities’.
The charity published a report in March on the MP that was said to reflect an online survey whereby 165 people were asked to described the impact on the local Pakistani community of Miss Champion’s remarks.
Co-authored by Nadeem Murtuja, the chairman and acting director of Just Yorkshire, it said that British Pakistanis felt ‘scapegoated, dehumanised and potentially criminalised’ by her.
This report led to death threats against Miss Champion, forcing Scotland Yard’s counterterrorism unity to increase her security risk level, The Times reported.
She was also reportedly advised to accept extra protection.
Miss Champion said that Just Yorkshire’s findings were ‘based on an extremely limited survey, distributed through networks not made in any way clear in the report.’ Mr Murtuja, a Labour supporter, denied that his charity was part of a plot against Miss Champion.
However, Miss Champion’s friends have claimed that hard-left and Muslim opponents are trying to force her from office and ruin her reputation.

Open and shut case methinks.

Dirty deeds afoot.
They don't need to "take charge", they just need a compliant MP who will not draw attention to the Muslim rape gangs.

Ms Champion's sin was to talk openly about it and pointing out an obvious, although irrelevant common factor about the rapists - they were mainly Pakistanis. According to the article this was an attack on British Pakistanis who felt "scapegoated, dehumanised and potentially criminalised" by her remarks. (See fuller context in Togo's last post). As is usual in such cases poor Ms Champion had to apologise "to the Rotherham Pakistani community ‘for any hurt or adverse reaction I inadvertently caused'". Obviously if anybody should be apologising it should be "the Rotherham Pakistani community", but that's the twisted world we live in.

All this so reminiscent of Ann Cryer's treatment sixteen years ago. This is an article from the Guardian which begins with:

"When Ann Cryer tried to bring abusers in her Yorkshire seat to justice, she was shunned by police, social services and imams"

Nah.
The muslim local muslim community has no power to remove her. Only the local Labour Party can do that.
Her comments did not prove to be an election loser at the last General Election when she increased her majority.
But her not supporting the party leader (when her local party does) may lead the local party to conclude, she is not the right candidate for them.
The case ws discussed on Sky News's "Press Preview" last night. The lefty half played her role in supporting the great lie impeccably describing the rapists not even as Pakistani, but as "Asian". Fortunately the righty half called it by its real name - the rapists were all Muslim.

Never mind 'Just Yorkshire' let's put 'Britain First'.

Sort of. When Labour picked the 'wrong' candidate for Bradford West in the 2015 election, the 'muslim community' demanded they pick the fragrant Ms Naz Shah instead.
And the rest, unfortunately, is history.
Naz Shah. An absolute charmer - and there's more where she came from.
