I am in total agreement with this ban in Wales. I find it very intimidating with beggars sitting beside cash machines and I know other people do, What do other Abers think?

It's intimidation just being there. Some may opt for the inconvenience of having to find another hole-in-the-wall. Seems reasonable to tolerate begging elsewhere but not where folk are going to be psychologically vulnerable. People should be able to give if they wish, but not made to feel guilt ridden and obliged.

My husband works in the city and says the entrance to the mainline station is awash with beggars. However, every night when he goes to get his train, he passes masses of unwanted food that the beggars have thrown away. I think generosity has to be sensible and selective.

i have honestly never been asked for money from a beggar
Really voltage? Wow I had 3 people ask me on my way to work this morning.

"are you not condoning the offence in all other areas"
More tolerating than condoning. One has greater priorities than to put moving beggars on everywhere at the top of the list. Ultimately this is a deficiency of society, that it can't seem to get everyone sorted as a useful member of society.
Does the ban include the ubiquitous Charity Collectors who are far more of a pest IMO. I bet it doesn't.
They'd be licenced.
Have you noticed how many of the beggars seem to be easy European?

Even our local Big Issue seller seemed to be replaced by an immigrant.
Our Big Issue seller is Slovakian or Slovenian. Don't know which coz he mutters.
Our accordion playing (only three repetitive tunes) beggar / busker is Romanian.
I would give him money to shut up or play elsewhere.
Free movement of people, ay.
Theland “Insomuch as ye have done it to the least of these....”
Don't worry, they both get their daily bread off me, and the food bank.
Yes!
I must agree!!
Move the problem with your society to a place where it can't be seen!!!
Are all happy?
Three tunes repeated all day? Yes, entertain somebody else for a while. Spread the joy!
Three tunes Theland.
You only manage one!
Where is the joy?
Looks like beggars can't be schmoozers.
// Naomi - you've never encountered someone saying 'can you spare some change?'//

we know the answer - - no
(N never lies)
[ and must I think be an ex convent girl...]
// Our Big Issue seller is Slovakian or Slovenian. Don't know which coz he mutters. //

one speaks Slovak and the other speaks Slovenisch ( apparently. Slovenisch people jealously guard their nationality because no one knows where the hell it is. Including me)
ummmm, //Naomi - you've never encountered someone saying 'can you spare some change?' //

Yes I have, but not in our local town. As I said I've never seen anyone begging there.

Peter Pedant, rather than butting in with your usual unbridled enthusiasm, it would be far more courteous if you waited for me to answer questions put to me. That way you'll make fewer mistakes.
