yes, Canary, studies repeatedly show the Scots are the most generous charitable donors in the UK. https://www.thirdsector.co.uk/scots-charitable-rest-uk-research-finds/fundraising/article/1446719
Sorry Jenny, I wasn't aware that I had gone for it, certainly no offence intended.
I've found all the Scottish people I've encountered totally at variance with this stereotype, and the hospitality offered the most generous. A lovely people IMO.
I've met many Scotsmen (and women) and pretty much all back up the steriotype. Nice people but they live by 2take care of the pennies and the poonds will take care of themselves).
Except in the pub it seems where the wallet was always open :-)
Most Scottish 'meanness' stories are probably created by Scots, just as many similar Jewish stories are probably created by Jews. My favourite has long been one in the form of a photographic postcard showing an almost totally empty Union Street, Aberdeen. The picture - which must have been taken at about 5 am on a Sunday - had the tag-line, "Aberdeen on a flag-day!"
What Jno said at 14.10 is far closer to the truth.
