Physically disabled obtaining a "disabled sticker" is common sense, BUT mentally disabled being offered that privileged is nonsense.
So now we have the depressed, the anxious, the people with Autism and other doubtful medical diagnosis being offered parking spots.
Disabled parking slots are abused in any case and this new "rule " will make the situation worse for genuinely disable patients.
It's ill thought out and a nonsense.

It's not just for the driver though, it can be for passengers. How easy is it when accompanying an individual with dementia ? Anyway it might fill up a few of those empty spaces there are always there ;-)

The disabled parking spots are a joke, they are provided because the disabled find it hard to walk the long distance other parking spots are from the store.

Yet most of those who use the disabled parking spaces, then go on to walk around the store for almost an hour.

I get quite a lot of blue badge holders parking in the ambulance bays outside of the hospital where i work, I normally give them 15 mins then report them, we have a lot of patients arriving by hospital transport everyday and need the spaces due to using wheel chairs.

Things like dementia I think they should be issued. My nan was in a care home and we used to take her to see my granddad 3 or 4 times a week, only for a couple of hours. They lived very close to the town centre so you couldn't get parking easily. She was 80 years old, confused, just had a mastectomy. We should have been able to park.

I would have been happy for them to put a postcode on it so I could only park in that postcode.

As far as I am aware, Dementia is a mental disorder with only physical manifestations developing at a later stage.
If a patient with Dementia develops shortness of breath OR impaired mobility, then they should apply for a Blue Badge on those criteria NOT because of their mental diagnosis.

Blue badge holders can park on double yellow lines for upto 3 hours, so parking anywhere shouldn't be a problem.

webbo....double yellow lines are not the problem, the main issues are in supermarket car parks where disabled parking can be a problem, which will be made worse by this new rule..

I have an autistic son and would have never required a blue badge. Parent and child places suffice in places like supermarkets. But situations with my nan where I had to drive round and round hoping someone would move their car is not ideal. A postcode on the badge could make sure it isn't abused.

A mental health issue that brings with it a difficulty in getting around or being escorted should be considered but not purely a diagnosis - I have 3 Grandchildren with autism and this would never have been required, I can see for dementia sufferers and other sever mental impairment it may well be.

Especially for appointments etc.
