since the police aren't interested in actually prosecuting these transgressors and are happy to just cluck their disapproval on twitter, is there any point in this "law" today?

The real question surely should be Is there any point in the Police these days.

All most of them have become are PC (pun) social workers. Fine for solving hate crime but jack use for anything else. And if they do their hand wringing RoB seniors will soon sort them out.

Lycralouts are their own worst enemies, . . . . . . . . . carry on boys
The rider was seen on the A38M in Birmingham at 17:40 BST on Wednesday.

The cyclist would have been travelling faster than the cars at that time of the day on the Aston expressway.

//The cyclist would have been travelling faster than the cars at that time of the day on the Aston expressway. //

would that be grounds for allowing cyclists on motorways, Tony? the expressway IS a motorway.
would that be grounds for allowing cyclists on motorways, Tony?

Most certainly not.
The law will keep sensible cyclists away from motorways. Those using them are playing Russian roulette
yes, 3 in 4 days is no reason to abandon the law, if it becomes more of an issue they'll act. Are you suggesting that any law that someone does not get prosecuting for breaking should be repealed? Think it through.
And there's even more or the nuisances on the roads !
Cyclists stupid enough to cycle on the motorway deserve everything they get.Darwin awards to be won.
//A38M //

Is the 'A' what confuses them ... do they think it's just an 'A' road? Can't think of anything to say about them cycling on the M6 ... well at least nothing publishable.
Be a real shame if they were injured in any way or, perish the thought, killed.
Imagine having to read the results of their M8s 'taking to social media' to bleat about how they were diamonds or legends and didn't deserve to die.

Tragedy.
The major crime here is not thickos cycling on the motorway or idiots putting their lives at risk (and potentially others too).
No, the major crime is multi-national companies who do not give a sh/t about their (none) employees, and the dangers they pose to other road users.
They are paid a pittance, and have to get from A to B in the quickest time, taking stupid risk to acieve that.
The Tech giants running this operation, thousands of miles away are laughing all the way to the bank, avoiding their fair share of local taxes into the bargain.
^^^Blimey, that's a bit of a stretch isn't it? Talk about a leap of logic.

OMG are they crazy ?
No, though I think Gromit has lost it - or a bottle of cordial too many last night.
I can only presume that the two men on the motorway and the deliveroo rider on the motorway were foreign nationals and didn't understand laws because everyone knows, cyclists or not that cycling on the motorway is illegal.
I don't think Gromit is wrong. There is a good chance they are taking the quickest route and risking it.
//The law will keep sensible cyclists away from motorways//
do sensible cyclists need a law for that?

No, they don't.

Thinking about it though I would know how to get to places by avoiding the motorway.
They should be prosecuted and sterilized we can't afford to have idiots like that breeding, only joking but if you don't use the powers you have once in a while they lose the deterrent effect
