People who ride bikes in central London need their bumps felt.... but that said, cyclists there so very often taken liberties. One could be forgiven for thinking the rules of the road don't apply to them. Not that I'm saying this poor man didn't abide by the rules, but with the way some cyclists flout the rules, weaving in and out and past, motorists really need eyes in the backs of their heads.

Spath, //cyclists have just as much road right than any car//
I’m not disputing that. They should, however, for their own safety, obey the rules of the road as every other road user is expected to do. Squeezing up on the inside of lorries and shooting through red lights is not obeying the rules of the road. They should remember the lorry doesn't suffer when the worst happens. They do.
//Cyclists in the city should be priority.//
Priority? Who gets priority in the city other than the emergency services! Clearly you've never driven in central London, spath.

What's needed is a ban on such suicidal sports such as cycling on public roads.

Didn’t realise commuting to work is a sport! That makes me a top athlete at my hospital(place of work).
As has been pointed out, this is the 8th death of a cyclist this year in London, it continues unabated.
Still, at least the government is getting its priorities in order:

One the plus side, thousands of cyclists die every year on British Roads, but the Tories are intruducing the crime of death by Dangerous Cycling. The Maybots know a popularist Policy when they see one.

I too was flattened by a cyclist outside the national library because he considered his time trumped the right of way I had at the crossing I was using.

Mushroom,
Sorry to hear about your bad encounter with a cyclist but fortunately you were not injured. There are undoubtedly twits on 2 wheels. But lasy year, 18,477 cylists were injurred on the roads, but the Government are doing nothing [Zero] to protect them. Instead they are introducing legislation to make prosecution of more cyclists easier.
