I'm sure this same story happened a few months ago too- also a ring on a carrot. I'll try to find it. I also remember a similar story in The Sun 40 years ago- as I was involved in writing it

I've just spotted that the lastest story acknowledges it has happened before:
"it was somewhat of a phenomenon around the world for missing rings to show up on vegetables, with rings appearing on carrots in Canada, Sweden and Germany, just to name a few."
