In short, if we believe that there is a crisis in policing (there isn’t) there are people higher in the queue than Khan who should be sacked first.

Khan has made an enemy of the alt-right because he corrected some of Trump’s falsehoods on Twitter. That made him a target, and is why he is constantly being blamed for stuff that the Home Secretary is responsible for. Being a Muslim doesn’t help either, with people who have a racist agenda.

But the majority of this crime is about drugs and turf wars. The supply of illegal drugs, and profits from selling them is not controlled. So with the best will in the world, you won’t solve knife and gun crime until you solve the drug problem. That is ready more in the Home Secretary’s remit than Khan’s.
