I'm not a huge football fan but I have a soft spot for Liverpool - first match that I ever saw was Everton-Liverpool in 67 or was it 8. The learning lessons have been had, as with that dreadful Bradford fire and the testament and best legacy for those lost is better stadium design, comfort, safety and policing.
No doubt there will be conjecture, finger-pointing, and blaming regarding this tragedy going on for years to come. The point is that so many things, people, circumstances etc had to come together to result in the chaos that resulted in the deaths and injuries. Think of the Butterfly Effect. Surely it’s impossible to place the sole blame upon one group, let alone one individual. And I find it difficult to understand why some people refuse to accept the fact the fans contributed, in no small way, to the outcome. The stark reality is that the deaths and injuries of some fans were caused by the uncontrolled mobbing behaviour of other fans. This was not of course intentional or planned: It just happened…It was part of the total chaos that enveloped in that situation at that particular time due to unforeseen circumstances all coming together to result in a tremendous tragedy.
