Straight White Actor To Play Disney's First Gay Character.
67 Answers
/// Omar Sharif Jr tweeted: “Really Disney Jungle Cruise ? Your first significant gay role will be played by a straight white man perpetuating stereotypes? Fail! This ship should sink.” ///
Does it really matter if the actor happens to be straight or dare I say it, 'WHITE' for that matter?

Whilst I think the outrage is an overreaction, it would be nice if people could come up with sensible comparisons for a change.
This is more related to the potential loss of high-profile roles for openly gay men, than it is about the idea that actors should only play themselves. In that sense, a rather more accurate parallel might be, say, the early 20th-century habit of white actors "blacking up" to play black roles, rather than employing actual black actors.
It's not remotely as serious, because although *this* role has gone to a straight man, plenty of other roles are still available for the openly gay. But the psychopath/doctor/ewok comparison is just silly.
