Once more it seems that we have been forced to back down from our rules in English dress code, so as to fit in with other cultures.

Problems with multiculturalism are now appearing on almost a daily basis and pose quite difficult problems to the establishment. This is not the UK that i know and was brought up in, educated in and have experience of............ I am glad that i lived in the era that i have done well over the half century. I do not understand most aspects of life today and my take...

bang on sqad, it's only going to get worse. We have too many right on ninnies in authority ably assisting the destruction of our own traditions on the altar of PC cobras.
I meant yes I agree with the school. Not the ropey answers.
Bet you a pound to a penny this kid doesn't even know about the origin of "Rastafarianisn"!
looks like the AB censorship program is working well.
Rastafarianism is very modern relative to other 'religions'.

Saying they all smoke the devils lettuce is wrong, TTT and otherwise objectionable.

As far as i'm aware (i'm not that aware) they only smoke on certain religious days to connect with their deities. I assume those of a young age do not smoke.

Either way, the culture of the Rastafarian regarding marijuana is moot to this thread as it's about the hair.. not that the culture does in its own time.
///Bet you a pound to a penny this kid doesn't even know about the origin of "Rastafarianisn"! ///

And you are basing that solely on your dismissal of everything of which you disapprove as 'cobras' (sic), I assume?
Because you certainly have absolutely no other evidence...
"Either way, the culture of the Rastafarian regarding marijuana is moot to this thread as it's about the hair." - err the basis for the fuss was the kids right to indulge in his "culture" - I was just pointing out that there are other aspects of the Rastafarian culture and that logically they will be the next things that will be forced on, in this case, the school.
OK that is a fair point.. however, the child wasn't trying to light up in the playground, he was just 'rocking his style'
///......logically///

You are a card, geezer. There's nothing logical, whatsoever, about the leaps in your reasoning.
Smoking is banned just about everywhere but the home, in any case.
Especially for kids in the playground
So another religion, Rastafarian, can enter the school of another faith and then demand they bow to his/her "culture"?

I can imagine the furore if a Christian, or indeed this Rastafarian, entered a Muslim school and wanted to change things.

Right-on liberalism has a lot to answer for.

Ah, yet another question where the answer is in the article.
"Ah, yet another question where the answer is in the article."

No it isn't, this is a debate where different people will opine.
Was the school wrong?

Yes.

Waiting for someone to do the maths on this one.

BANANASPLIT - The boy who was sent home from school didn’t have closely cropped hair. His hair was fashioned on the style of Peaky Blinders.
So a school can't have rules then.

Righty oh, I'm glad I am on the downhill part of life as it's going to be a nightmare in 40 years.
Sp, i’m sorry this is off thread and probally inapropriate but i’d just like to say it is very nice and refreshing to see you and your avatar about :)
The original Q is
'Was This Church Of England School Right To Ban Rastafarian Dreadlocks?'

The ruling was that the child was discriminated against, ergo the answer to the original Q is 'No'.

The spurious 'debate' which has ensued deliberately avoids this ineffable conclusion and just let's people have their usual AB rant.

Do you mean that the original question should have been: 'Do you agree with the overturning of this child's exclusion from school because of his dreadlocks?'
That's a completely different issue and what seems to be being 'debated'.
///So a school can't have rules then. ///

Another fallacious statement; still don't let it get in the way of another tub-thumping moan...
