I agree with Labour on this. In fact I don't know why anyone would not want to wait until the child is born to see what sex it is. I enjoyed the uncertainty with mine, we had boys and girls names ready etc, I stood ready with the decoration materials for the room etc.

I had an AFT with my last pregnancy and sex of child was determined 100%. I was given the choice if I wanted to know and said yes of course. At that point all the girl names were forgotten about, babies nursery could be prepared with suitable decoration (yes I'm old fashioned) as we knew what we were getting.
The article is not about the 16 week scan which often cannot see the sex of the baby. Its about the Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT) used by the NHS to test for genetic conditions. People can pay for it privately at the moment to discover a baby's gender but some are using this test to see if they are expecting a girl, which in some sectors of the british community is not good news. Labour think some of these people may using the results of the test to abort female babies.

If that were the case,Aunt Lydia, then I believe the infanticide Law should be updated and rigourously enforced.
I don't think this service should be provided unless paid for.

The nipt is only available on the NHS in wales at the moment, and only after a poor result from the general screening that's offered to women in their 12 week scan. By poor, i mean a "high risk" result. Even if the nipt shows a proble, women still have to have an amniocentesis to confirm before you can get an abortion (as far as i'm aware). so the situation you describe just isn't happening (on the NHS) at the moment
