whether or not this is a consequence of Brexit, not sure. but it's the case that any delay at the ports - be it caused by French fishermen, French farmers, irregular migrants or just the weather - causes massive problems for the transport infrastructure in Kent. the DfT has been using Manston to store delayed trucks but the cost is prohibitive, and a dedicated off-road lorry park is years away. this work on the M26 - and on the M20 - is needed whether Brexit happens, or indeed if it doesn't.
Don't be ridiculous! It was a straight forward referendum! Leave or stay! Whatever the outcome should be WITHOUT tags or conditions! Leave...leave...stay..stay and nothing to add to either decision. Why so many snags, why does there have to be negotiations?? Canary.....don't blame the vote outcome because you don't agree with it! There should be no consequences to detract from the decision made. Sour grapes and all that by those who wanted to stay (stupidly) IMO. We managed without a federal Europe long ago and we can do so now. Soddem......they take too much of OUR money and we suffer the consequences.

It is clear from its contents that business bosses on the continent are just as concerned - if not more so - than those in the UK are about the possibility of the EU's intransigence leading to the sort of delays threatened. There is no possibility of such delays ensuing, whatever the "deal" is that we leave under (or even if no deal is agreed). For one thing there re simply not the resources on either side of the Channel to inspect freight. Secondly there is no need for it (any more than there is to inspect freight currently entering the EU via Felixstowe or Rotterdam). Thirdly, business pragmatism and national governments will prevail over EU idealism. The Euromaniacs may make nuisances of themselves for a short while but i won't last. And yes, I did envisage such consequences when I voted to leave and even if I thought such prophesies might come true - which is unlikely in the extreme - I would not have voted to remain. I want the UK out of the EU whatever the consequences. The UK will deal with whatever consequences ensue and will prosper in a manner that it never can whilst it remains a member.
