Smacking Proposal
The Scottish Government has launched a consultation int its proposed ban on smacking children. To me it is a no brainer. How can anyone believe that teaching children that violence works as a solution is logical or sensible?

You shouldn't feel ashamed with regards to 'hitting' your son all those years ago. There is a world of difference between a smack and a 'hit'. You probably did the former. A smack is usually done with an open hand but a hit is done with a closed fist.

I would never smack any human being. Its an act of violence and more often than not its in temper. If its premedidated is worse. And if adults have to smack a child as a punishment then they are not good parents or have limited intelligence.
Well that has certainly told every parent who brought up children in the 1940's.
What a totally stupid thing to say about the parents intelligence.

I have to disagree, Andres.....as I said before...the word smack is used to make hitting seem more acceptable. Both hurt....I hurt my son in anger....that's wrong and if I had continued to do it he would have been brought up to think that is how to deal with others...it's not....
Many of the adults I now read about in our court pages come as no surprise.....they were the ones I worked with who grew up in homes where hitting and swearing were used to "teach" children...x

SK - in the 40's parents didn't have the support they do now.

My parents were not in need of any support. Mind you, back then certain conditions were not readily available. Autism, ADSO and the like. There has to be a reason why a selection of todays young people are more unruly than any time previous. No respect in the home, at school or to any authority.

A child falls and bumps a knee...you pick the child up for a make it better kiss and cuddle....
A child is naughty and instead of having taken the time to teach it and bring it up well you hurt it?
Odd way to bring up children....hurting them????
So a child behaves in order not to get hurt rather then learning what to do or not do?
