This was never necessary when I was at school. Now that teachers have no other forms of control or discipline is it any wonder Isolation is the only way to protect the masses from the the disruptive minority. Now we have a "syndrome" for everything and no answers.

Discipline starts at home and I'm not talking about hitting I'm talking about instilling respect for elders and teachers. Parents are either too busy working or too ignorant or lazy to be bothered. The worst thing that could happen at school when I was young was your parents getting told you had misbehaved -these days parents come down to the school and abuse...

Isolation is often misapplied and doesn't have the desired effect - properly handled with the right task to perform works better but they haven't always the time or staff for that.
In the case of Casey (featured) it may well have been the pain and/or the Tramadol causing his depressed state - I can vouch for the latter.
All that said, Teachers have a duty to get a disruptive pupil away from halting the lesson for the sake of the other pupils.

And yes -no one is naughty or disruptive any more, they are all suffering from something......
Up until the early 90s most areas had Special schools. In our area we had two.One dealt with children of all ages with physical needs such as Cerebral Palsy,Down's syndrome, Autism and other medical conditions.
The other school took children and young adults with learning difficulties, emotional and behavioural problems.Children who had suffered all kinds of problems and needed special care and individual treatment.
All the children at both schools were given the best possible care and attention. Specialist treatment ,transport to and from school and an education that catered for their individual needs.
Then somewhere along the way it was decided that Mainstream education was probably a better option for children with Special needs and a lot of the Special Schools closed. So now we are seeing some of the results from those decisions-- Classroom assistants are no longer employed in a lot of schools. It's too expensive. Teachers are having to manage large classes on their own. Not that they didn't back in my day. It was the norm to have as many as 32 or more in a class but there didn't seem to be as many unruly kids back then.Teachers had more control ..Pupils had respect for them. Now it only takes a couple of disruptive ones in a class for mayhem to break out. Some kids set out to make their teacher's life hell. There are increasing numbers of children these days with emotional problems .Isolation somehow doesn't seem right for every disruptive child but it is probably the best option at the present time.I don't really know the answer ,I wish I did.

My son was put in isolation a few times. I think he'd rather be caned.
He was never a bad kid he was just having a hard time dealing with grief. Once the school found out what was wrong with him they arranged counseling. They were brilliant and it worked wonders. They arranged counseling for my other two as well.
Not all kids that are playing up are undisciplined. My son was good as gold at home but as I was grieving too he no outlet.
