The UN rapporteur responsible for reporting to the United Nations on different countries’ poverty levels has condemned Foodbank Britain.

This is an objective, non-partisan view, which will enrage those who believe there is no poverty here, and outrage those of us who know that there IS.

Can we ignore the UN?

Krom, I don't think anyone dismisses it. Rather they believe it's purposefully exaggerated and dramatized by people with a political axe to grind - which it is.
That sounds pretty dismissive to me...
Listen more carefully then.
sigh
Krom, Why are you sighing? The link this OP has posted mentions countries that none of us would want to live in but conveniently ignores similar problems in the rest of the western world. No agenda there then!
Yes we can.
If the EU want to bang on about poverty then start in places like Africa or India who have millions living on the pavement under a tarp and have a space program.
So if England is better than Ghana, Saudi Arabia, China and Mauritania all is well. The messenger is tasked with reporting on the UK and already has castigated current US policies - obviously useless. Shoot him.
I would have liked to have read more about

“Entirely a wasteful useless lefty liberal quango” - that’s youngmaf’s considered analysis of the United Nations.

In the 1930s, one of his heroes said of the UN’s predecessor “The League of Nations is synonymous ....... with surrender, compromise, and disgrace.”

Just to save anyone from having to read the UN rapporteur’s report, here is a quote from it:

“[he wrote] ...obvious to anyone who opens their eyes to see the immense growth in food banks and the queues waiting outside them, the people sleeping rough in the streets, the growth of homelessness, the sense of deep despair that leads even the government to appoint a minister for suicide prevention and civil society to report in depth on unheard-of levels of loneliness and isolation”.”

You really can’t ignore this.

Well yes clearly, since I wrote it.
'You really can’t ignore this.'

Wanna bet?
BB, you really are taking a simplistic view.

Maybe look a bit more under the covers as to why that may be. In this country the council where you are registered to reside must put you up. Either something is wrong or people dont want to register where they should.

As for food banks, give people a way to get something free and they will, gives them money to buy phones, fags and booze. There may be some genuine cases due to civil servants cocking up but, as previous investigations have shown, many are not genuine.
Interesting to see no one has set a definition of poverty for me.
Perhaps we should cease our donations to the U(ppity) N(incompoops) and say...….We intend to take your "advice" and use the funds to feed the millions of overweight starving here in the UK.
'Can we ignore the UN'? I can ...
