What a tragic story, I do hope that poor little baby Reuben survives.
Could it have been a tragic accident, Staffordshire Bull Terriers are generally placid dogs in fact they are called 'Nanny dogs' because they are good with children.

I thought it to be a little over the top for the poor parents to be arrested and placed in hand cuffs, what do others think?

/// is it OK to have them so widely in our society owned by absolutely anyone and everyone? ///
One could say that about humans, there are some who should never be allowed to have children.
But getting back to dogs, they should bring back licences to own a dog, and to obtain one of these licences one should prove that their environment and aptitude is suitable so as to be granted a licence.

Or a Malamute, which I own, they can be cantankerous to say the least with other dogs and need extremely firm handling, but with proper socialisation they are fine, like pitbulls are fine, like Staffies are fine etc etc etc. The problem is, as AL says, there are brigades of Chavs with no knowledge of dogs, breeding dogs and flogging them off to the first idiot who rocks up with the cash, and unfortunately for Staffies these idiots find a great appeal in them because they're seen as a macho breed. Cull the Chavs not the Staffies, there is no need for breed specific legislation. :/

I don't think we are identifying which are more likely to attack another dog, this thread is about Staffys attacking young children, so read this from your link.
/// Incredibly Kid Friendly Dogs,
Being gentle with children, sturdy enough to handle the heavy-handed pets and hugs they can dish out, and having a blasé attitude toward running, screaming children are all traits that make a kid-friendly dog. You may be surprised by who's on that list: Fierce-looking Boxers are considered good with children, as are American Staffordshire Terriers (aka pit bulls). Small, delicate, and potentially snappy dogs such as Chihuahuas aren't so family-friendly. ///

fact is, i can kick a Chihuahua in the face and it'll probably die, if i kick a staff in the face then it wouldn't even affect it, so in a dire situation, i'd be literally helpless. Physically, it would win against me.
I'd rather be bit by a Chihuahua 20 times rather than a staff once. Facts. So in my opinion, even if staffs bits 1/20th that of a Chihuahua, in my opinion, it's just as bad. It's the potential they have, not what they will 'normally' use. Beause as has been said, they have he potential for anything. I'd rather my chances with the Chihuahua.

If it is the potential spath, then the cat attacks, clawing faces and scarring for life should not be ignored. ESPECIALLY as most owners let them out to wander anywhere they want. They can jump fences and enter backyards where toddlers are playing
