They eventually split up and his contact with the boy stopped.
Some years later, after this man rightly went to prison, the mother applied to the council for her child to go in to care.
The law states that all relevant persons should be contacted in these circumstances and Rotherham council believed this included biological parents with no parental responsibility, which is the situation here. I have read and heard several conflicting opinions as to whether this is the case or not.
They asked the biological father if he wanted contact and thankfully he said no.
However, the law allows for the council to apply to courts for permission not to contact the absent parent and I am certain that had they done so the courts would have approved this.
It is still unclear whether the council were working to the letter of the law or not.
