The UK would be "indefinitely committed" to EU customs rules if Brexit trade talks broke down, the chief law officer has said....... That’s not an insentive to get a trade deal by the EU is it and of course the weak UK government will be falling over themselves and get the worst deal possible.

The attorney general said it was a "calculated risk" and "I do not believe we will be trapped in it permanently"...... He obviously has more faith in the EU than most people I know.

It matters not what the European court has decided, no sane person will want to reverse our escape and beg to be left/taken back in EU control. That ship has sailed.

It's not an issue if both sides of the border ignore demands to make it a hard border. But I doubt the RoI has the nerve to tell the EU what they can do with their demands, and how they can't be allowed to undermine the peace arrangement there.

It's not exactly a demand. If the UK and Ireland begin diverging on the relevant rules, there would at some point have to be an enforced border regardless of what politicians say. This would obviously be a disaster (both in terms of implimenation and social impact), which is why preventing this is such a priority and always was. It's not going to go away if you just ignore it.
