As to the question, I reckon the Japanese, etc. understand the ecology of their seas better than most.
And whether it's good looking and intelligent or ugly and stupid, I don't eat any sea-food.

Hasn't whaling been a traditional and profitable industry to European nations and its colonial exports like Canada and the US (Moby Dick, anybody?) for at least two centuries?

I suppose a lot of us are confused (or "conflicted" - ain't that today's buzzword?). The farming of animals for food entails a necessary degree of pain and suffering. And if you're a primitive savage an unnecessary degree of both.

I don't agree with whaling.

But, Japan seems to cop all the flack.

Nobody seems to pick on Iceland and Norway.

If you really feel the need to make a post concerning whaling then get your sh one tee together and attack all the countries that hunt whales. Not just those that look different to you!

Do some research, Northern Minke whales are far more endangered than southern Minke whales.
I'd like to see all whaling stopped, but, that would affect the fisheries that humans harvest from because the whales would eat the food humans want.

A balance needs to be found.

It's a difficult topic.

On one hand of course it seems barbaric and to drive a spicies into oblivion is just not on. On the other though often these countries have a problem with the whales eating all their fish, plus they eat the whale so what is the difference between us eating cod to the point of extinction(quite possible) and them eating whales?

And then there is the cultural thing. If this was a certain community I am sure no fuss would be made of it at all.

" - I did also condemn norway above, try reading the whole thread. This post is about the Japs actually not even pretending to obey the world ban and declaring it, nowt to do with how they look. Anyway. I condemn all hunters of these magnificent creatures if that helps.

See what their excuses have been over the years, and the excuses they use these days.
