Since attacks like this remain mercifully rare, although not rare enough, I suppose that most people feel that the chance to see such wonders is worth the risk. Sadly these tourists lost that gamble. Most will win it.

Nothing much to worry about. Another rare incident. early a hundred were gunned down at Luxor twenty odd years ago.
A more pressing. question to me, ChilledOut, is not why tourists (as a matter of free choice) go to Egypt etc. exposing themselves to the risks of terror attacks, but why Europe (as a matter of policy ) is importing those risks here.

It's cheap, has winter sun, brilliant diving and snorkelling and legendary artefacts - might have something to do with it. Feel so sorry for those killed and wounded but also for the local tourist industry, people had really only just started to return and now they won't again - for the pedants I'm including the Red Sea resorts in this.
// As ever, I’ll never fathom the want to holiday in any Islamic country.//

//As ever, I’ll never fathom the want to holiday in any Islamic county.// um never been to Birmingham then?

// As ever, I’ll never fathom the want to holiday in any Islamic country.// you're like those firemen honoured in the New years honours today - they hear a bomb go off and hi-tail oudda town !
I was sorry for all concerned. Viet is mainly Buddhist and 2% Roman Catholic - I am not sure if they could understand the argument that if one blows up tourists then the country will be free !
free from tourists that is!
The bus deviates from a known safe route and just happens to pass an IED embedded in a wall that someone sets off ....
sounds likely - but the likely thing is that the Egyptians have no idea what happened

PC - really? you should be at GCHQ listening to what they say ...
PP I am on a bucket holiday for chrissakes .....
