I don't see this business or other similar ones as con men - it was obvious when the news came out last July that the Government were drawing up plans to stockpile processed food that someone would see an opportunity.

As the lady in the article says, she has a history of stockpiling for hard times based on her past experiences, others who have bought into this will have their own way of thinking.

Companies prey on our insecurities every day - as always Caveat emptor.

I wonder what "past experiences" have caused her to stockpile? The only time I've ever felt the need to stockpile was when I found the shops to be empty of goods because idiots had stockpiled (usually when a light snowfall had occurred, with drifting up to half an inch in places).

I remember that in 1974 there was briefly a sugar shortage (can't recall why). It was like gold dust; if you spotted a bag of sugar you bought it, irrespective of the inflated price.

I don't remember if it was national but certainly in London there was a Bread shortage in the late 70's. I recall petrol coupons being issued in the early 70's but had no need to use them.
