His daughter claims he was kept in an unheated sell and hosed with a cold water 'shower' every day - possibly contributing to his fatal heart attack. I never particularly liked the man, but did his sins warrant such treatment or this invective by the Sun, in a civilised country?

What a load of tosh that sort of treatment only happens in trashy 50s novels - we often had prisoners complaining their cells / showers were to hot when I was still in the service.

Khandro, i can't find anything that say he was 'hosed with a cold water shower' every day. All i can find is that he regularly complained his cell was freezing and the water in the showers was cold. Nothing about being hosed.

Ive been in prison where the cells have been cold at night (in the winter) and the showers only lukewarm but hosed down with cold water? Really?

Bazille, we've all seen those films where prisoners are hosed down with cold water spouting with such force from the hose that they are forced to their knees. That, i think, is what many of us imagined when we read the words, 'hosed with a cold water shower'.

What about the Sun's invective, cold water showers (or whatever) and cold cell?
I don't remember his trial, I think I was abroad at the time. according to the Sun, he had been intimate with young men, the youngest 15.
Did he actually rape anybody?

I can't remember anything about him abusing boys. His victims were all young women as far as I recall.

Khandro; in my experience, some feel the cold more than others. Perhaps the heating in his cell was not up to the standard he had become accustomed to and the water in the showers was just above tepid. Who knows? I suppose in a building the size of a prison with inmates taking showers at approximately the same time (i would guess) the boilers probably don't perform to their best. Just think it's a non-story. Which The Sun is quite adept at producing.
