// Lawyers representing a Syrian boy who was attacked at school have served a legal letter at Tommy Robinson’s home in an attempt to sue him for defamation.

The anti-Islam activist posted a series of videos and Facebook posts about the incident in October.

The suspect, a 16-year-old boy, has been summonsed to court for alleged assault.

The teenager had shared numerous posts from Mr Robinson’s Facebook account in the months before the incident, as well as from Britain First and other far-right accounts. //

One of the drawbacks of accepting £millions in donations from gullible far right but jobs, he is now worth suing.

I wish big fat Cyril Smith had been exposed by somebody like Tommy Robinson, when he was abusing children, and being protected by the establishment.
We need the Tommies of this world.
Theland - // We need the Tommies of this world.//

I can quite understand your attraction to 'Tommy', and indeed the 'Tommies of this world' - a man looking and sounding sincere, no matter what level of patent garbage he may be spounting - if he's on a video, he gets your vote.
And who else is highlighting the enemy within?
Genuine question, Theland: are all your religious threads an attempt to reestablish Christianity to its mediaeval and Civil War place at the centre of our society?
Theland - // And who else is highlighting the enemy within?//

You speak about 'Tommy' as though he is some great prosecutor of dreadful misdeads which the rest of the world ignores, until he comes along and shines a light into dark corners.

Wold that he were that clever, or less of an opportunist, or a money-grabber, or a racist, or a thug, but sadly he is all of these things.

Do you, or any of his supporters, imagine that 'Tommy' would have given, or continue to give, such atention to such crimes if they were being committed by gangs of white British men?

Of course, they are, and they always have been - certainly since before the Asian gangs got going, but of course, that doesnlt chime with 'Tommy's fervent racism, so they all got a swerve.

It was only 'Tommy's willingness to tie Muslim communities into these dreadful crimes, and to play on the existing fears and predjudices, that have catapualted him from being a racist football thug fradster into a well-known and rich racist football thug fraudster.

I'm not denying that these crimes were going on, and I am equally not denying that they were not investigated as they should have been - but the notion that nothing at all was happening until suddenly 'Tommy Robinson' appeared is a myth - a myth he has polished along with the expansion of his fame and bank account - but a myth nonetheless.

Just because someone wears a nice suit and speaks sincerely into a video camera does not make him the saviour of the world.

lets get one thing straight Tommy R is a reoccurring criminal and i know people change, but he aint
Quite an ironic marathon thread this.

I hope TR hasn't read it as there have been many colourful descriptions about his character. He may consider an action for defamation!
Is mental illness a defence against defamation?
Somewhat ironic that we now have posts discussing ethical journalistic standards.

The role the media has played in assisting the perpetuation of these crimes has been shameful.

It has done this in three ways:

Don't report the crimes.

Report the crimes, but don't mention, or obfuscate the common cultural thread which links tm.

Discuss the crimes, but always promote the apologetic which has successfully run interference for the rapists for two decades: that "ethnicity and culture have absolutely no relevance to this class of sexual abuse". (Quoted from the longer Norfolk video I posted)
The NUJ Rule Book is, pretty much, a guide to keeping people uninformed.
Vetusti - // Somewhat ironic that we now have posts discussing ethical journalistic standards. //

I don't see how 'Tommy Robinson' belongs in any discusion anywhere where the words 'ethical', 'journalistic', or 'standards' are being debated - he wouldn't know any of those concepts if they jumped up and bit him!
PS: the BBC through its editorial staff and mouthpiece Jo Coburn was still repeating the deceptive apologia not three weeks ago when Gerard Batten was being interviewed on "Politics Live".
If it wasn't for Tommy, we would not have had the info regarding the hate imam preaching jihad from Didsbury mosque, where Abedi attended, three weeks before the Manchester bomb.
Or standing up to the protesters calling for the deaths of the soldiers of the Anglian regiment returning to Britain.
Maybe he filled a vacuum.
Others were having coffee.
The NUJ document you refere to and a similar guideline to "standards" produced by a EU funded body both proscribe references to "ethnicity or cultural background" in the reporting of crimes, Spicerack. With the weaselly rider "unless directly relevant to the news item".
Cowards everywhere!
Don't know about "cowardice", Theland. Not sure it's the right word.

What this thread proves to me is that a Tommy Robinson thread (not the first, is it?) will attract hundreds of posts from people who don't like Robinson and think that it's important (for no reason that's obvious to me) to say as much often. And the more often the better.

On the other hand, a thread which tries to analyse the crime and its causes attracts zilch attention from this set of posters.

And that, dear readers, explains exactly how and why the rape of under-age girls was known about and permitted for so long: all the relevant authorities in Rotherham (as just one example out of dozens) thought that hating the Tommy Robinsons and rejecting all their accusations (even when known to be true) was more important than protecting twelve-year old girls.
Good post vetuste.

Very much echoes a thread earlier today from Naomi about priorities and principles.
Anyone read my link at 17:36 Tue. yet? It contains several interesting points about the reportage of Tommy.
Khandro,I've just skimmed through the link (long!) and found it quite interesting...

//rushed him through a mockery of a trial, and shipped him off to prison, obviously hoping he wouldn’t come out alive.//

rather silly end comment there!

Also, the piece about 'pinning what the authorities could on him',stating that they are minor crimes for which any of us could be charged for.I didn't agree with that bit.

Interesting analogy with Douglas Murray i.e very similar views but treated very differently by the media.Murray himself has had some very close calls and could easily have come a cropper.Mention his name though and many will say 'who'? and yet,as I stated, his views on Islam are very similar but because he is more quietly spoken and not as 'in your face' his treatment is different.

Use of TR's real name in reporting was a good point too.

Douglas Murray, of whom I too am a fan, had certain advantages Tommy didn't ; Eton and Magdalen College.
