With almost daily knife incidents happening in London, do you think that this sole incident is being taken out of all proportion by the authorities?
Why even the Prime Minister condemned the Surrey attack on Sunday evening /// She tweeted: ‘My thanks to the emergency services for their handling of the terrorist incident in Stanwell. 'My thoughts are with the injured man, and his family and friends. Vile, hateful far-right extremism has no place in our
society.’ ///

On the other hand, that's great news about Brandon Jenner. Thank Goodness somebody is willing to tell the truth about one man's heartbreak.

My initial thoughts on your OP question AOG is that it could be both.
There's not much information about the actual attack...or was the one swing of the knife the beginning and end of the attack?
How would that be attempted murder?
//Another neighbour explained: 'He never used to be like this, but over the last couple of months it's like someone's flipped a switch and he's a completely different person.
'We all grew up here and we knew him, he's not such a bad bloke. We think it's all been blown out of proportion.' //
If the attack was, in fact, a single swing of the knife this neighbour could well be right.

I find this puzzling.
//Assistant commissioner, Neil Basu, head of Counter Terrorism Policing, said on Sunday: 'Whilst this investigation is still in its infancy, it has hallmarks of a terror event, inspired by the far-right, and therefore it has been declared a terrorism incident.'
'This allows us to use all of the specialist capabilities available to establish the full circumstances of this attack.'//
Why then, do they rule out terrorism so quickly in certain incidents?
''We have ruled out terrorism in this particular case'
This means we cannot use all of the specialist capabilities available to establish the full circumstances of this attack.
Bizarre.

I heard the story mentioned briefly on the radio and did not think it warranted widespread reporting. That you have bothered to find two newspaper links to the story suggests you think it does. That's the difference.
There is a link to a story about Brandon Jenner, whoever he is, on the Daily Mail page. The main reason I avoid that website is the volume of background rubbish vying for attention. I do not consider either story is worth the coverage it gets, but I understand that some people like to have something to rant about.

retrocop - // Well as most terrorist attacks described in the rest of Europe are now described as' the suspect is believed to have mental health problems'I suppose we could assume the same. :-( //
I never understand why the media qualify attacks with that mention of 'mental health problems' - I would have thought that mental health problems were a given for anyone who attacks a stranger with a knife.

Not for the London Black on Black stabbings I would presume, from some of the excuses given.
