It was announced on the BBC London news tonight that the Mayor of London has acceded to the wishes of Muslims in London to grant millions of pounds to assist in the security of Mosques. No doubt as a result of the attack on two Mosques in Christchurch. Whilst it would be abhorrent for a similar attack on any place of worship in the UK it would be irresponsible to ignore that particular threat. That is a given.
Does any one believe the Muslim Council of Great Britain will actually meet any security measures suggested half way if their security is to be subsidised by Londoners?
It would be horribly ironic should a 'being' enter a Mosque disguised head to foot in a Burka carrying a couple of MAC 10 or Scorpion miniature under their garb and perpetrate a similar massacre. Will Muslim women be allowed to continue to wear this hideous dress or,indeed, subject themselves to a strict body search when entering a Mosque? If not. So called increased security will be a sham.

So why would banning the burqa in a mosque have any benefit to mosque security?
because this thread is about "Mosque Security Pledge".. not about random Islamic criminals using burqas to blow up buses, but specifically mosque security from far right loonies.
How do you know whose hiding under a burka, spath? Are you sure it's a Muslim? Or could it be someone else?
Who cares?
If you don't care why are you arguing against a suggested requirement for people to be identifiable?
I'm not, i'm arguing for people to have the right to wear what they like, and i'm telling you that if a man in an army outfit with a helmet and guns can go into a mosque and shoot it up, so can anyone, so using that to suggest banning the burqa is ridiculous and moot, because the guy wasn't wearing a burqa.

Do many far right loonies go and commit terrorism in a burqa?

Again you are either being obtuse.
A burqa is a great disguise for a white male to slip into anywhere and commit a heinous crime. It covers up what is carried beneath both in terms of identity and lethal weaponry and equipment. It is called 'SUBTERFUGE and CAMOUFLAGE' If you are going to splash millions of money in security measures why go at it half hearted? A total waste of money.
If you were monitoring a bank of cctv screens would you say oh there are a number of burka clad persons now entering the Mosque but that is normal for a Muslim women in a mosque. No problem.
Of course it's bloody normal and that is why a determined nutjob would expect that to be thought of him if he wore such attire whilst entering a mosque armed to the teeth. You cannot have good security all the time. But to eliminate an obvious threat would be safer rather than taking the normal for granted. Expect the Unexpected or take the consequences.

The burqa isn't a threat. Loonies are.

Think the guy who took Madeline was in a burqa? What about the 911 terrorists? *** happens burqa or not.

you're using a ridiculous moot reason for a specific agenda which wouldn't actually help anything.

Retro, you're wasting your breath. Spath is on the 'moot' trail again.
10:18 Tue, oh dear. Will the real spath please stand up.
It's like banging your head against a wall...

You would just wait for it to happen then and say,'who would of thought it'

Right wingers nutters don't apparently hold the monopoly on stupidity.
There are a few cases where crimes have been committed by Burqa clad MALES. An escape by a prisoner from Magistrates court springs to mind when donning a burqa in the toilet and just walking out.

Explain how this escape happened?

I don't want to discuss this further with the kind of pompous righteousness present.

Have fun with Naomi and Ummm though. I'm sure you can all sit in a circle agreeing with each other then calling anyone who has a different view "Obtuse".
But I didn't call you obtuse!
I see the logic, and would suggest a further extension. Since more people are killed by vehicle bombs than by by individuals dressed as fundamental believers, we should ban cars, vans and trucks.

Of course there is the counter argument, that terrorists want to stop us leading normal lives, but surely it is only right that we be allowed to surrender some of our own freedoms, right? It seems unfair that the beneficiaries of this new phase of Puritanism should be Middle Eastern and Asian women.
spath, the man in Retro's link changed into a burka in a mosque - and escaped.

JF85, what freedoms would you like us to surrender - and how would that be beneficial to security?
And was the mosque's security at threat? No. So how would banning the Burqa help mosques, which is what we're discussing not the polices inability to successfully electronic track a man in a burqa?

Should all costumes and masks be banned along with hoodies? That would only be fair to keep the standards regarding face coverings.

What about makeup? Women could make themself look like anyone these days. What's the difference?

// it would be abhorrent for an attack on any place of worship in the UK, it would be irresponsible to ignore that particular threat. That is a given."

no - that is a non sequitur from one of the usual suspects.

a mosque might be attacked so you protect all the churches ( oh but not the Roman catholic ones as we dont like them) - oh my god ( or Gawd! as some here so memorably exclaim)
what about chapels of rest or bishops palaces ?
