Just humourlessly showing the other side of the story Naomi, that's all.
Oh ... right.
someone demolished a pub in London a couple of years ago, and the court ordered them to rebuild it. I like it when that happens.
Why is it that very rich people look like they decorate in the dark. Wealth does not bring good taste.
//Wealth does not bring good taste. //

True - but it often brings ostentatious displays of wealth.
Diter's piano is more upright than him.
If that was my property, it would be demolished over my dead body.......it is fabulous. There may well be an appeal process and I certainly hope so.
well you shouldn't have built it on protected land then lol
There is more to this story than meets the eye.
How could one build an impressive chateaux, which must have taken years and lawyers time, without somebody noticing that it was either illegal OR planning permission hadn't been sort?

My bet........that property will still be standing in 100 years time....at least.
Tout a fait magnifique - pity if it has to come down
It looks like a Colombian drug baron's idea of style.

A brothel with a pool.

But enough of all that, let's move on to the mystery house, I think you'll love it
//that property will still be standing in 100 years time....at least.//

And a daily fine rate of £500,he can afford it ;-)
// //Wealth does not bring good taste. //
True - but it often brings ostentatious displays of wealth.

how true how true - how often do you see the poor in ostentatious displays of wealth? foo how often dat den ?

warning: thinkers in full flow on AB I see ....
and I also see correct French grammar on AB wow ! how often dat den. foo ring the police !

the bleeding foreigners - sanglants is an adjective amd agrees ( plural)
but here it is not adjectival on foreigners and so is singular
I keep away from French present participles

( I see the dancing women in the street is different to
I see the women dancing in the street)

as for the content - if you pull something down without permission you may be forced to rebuild (restitution rather than damages.) I would have thought to be pretty straightforward law in any country.

are we forced to this weak country beer because there is no bright new daily Brexit thread ? champagne to every full blooded ABer ?
OK not champagne - er pomagne den
o jesus he built it and has to pull it down
sozza readers - in AB mode foday ....
He built on protected woodland. Said it was full of snakes and creepy crawlies. That would be the insects which are all part of our precious eco system I guess. He doesn't have to demolish all of it; he can keep the bit not built on protected woodland. Quite right. In my view protected woodland wins every time. Talk about OTT and he doesn't do minimalism does he.

£500 / day fine. Pah! C'est un petit bagatelle.
It is a beautiful building (externally) but it seems to be more a hotel than a home. No doubt they have other homes.

If he has broken the law it should be removed/destroyed.

But a building of this size would have taken quite a while to build - surely someone would have reported him to the authorities before it was finished.

Ha!!!!

I knew I'd seen it before. Featured in the Sky Atlantic series 'Riviera'

been done before den

one old guy - no really - inserted a half timbered house looking spanking like a mediaeval long house in a green belt

and an educated planning officer driving by in his Fiat 800 thought - hey dat should be listed if it isnt already and found it wasnt

it had been built two years before - decided - pull it down

[ well the spotty unhealthy planning officer who had not earned a days money in his life DID say - it enhanced his property by around £2m and we cdnt have that, could we?]
