and the short answer given by Sir Ivor Jennings privately (*) in 1962 when Her Maj asked if she had to accept Alec Douglas Home without a general election
was yes if he commands the confidence of the house ( of commons). He did
(*) if it were private then how do I know about it?
The Law Officers ( AG and SG ) said yes - and she said - but you would say that wouldnt you? and the the law officers said 'yes'. So she rang up her private lawyers ( she has them) and he ( Sir Ive) gave said advice and then wrote a book about it

// I think you need to learn about our system, you appear clueless. Are you not from the UK?//
no I think you need to 3T - the question is about PMs taking over without a general election
Macmillan to Douglas Home 1962
Thatcher to Major erm whever
Bliar to Brown
and the answer appears a GE is not needed if the new leader commands a majority in the House
and the question was - has it ever run on to two ?
no but it cd do if the three PMs command confidence of the House
Please try not to imply someone is forrin or stupid when all that has happened is that you havent bothered to read the question (OP) properly or with any attention
in terms of reading I recommend
Queen's Government by Sir Ivor Jennings
